Samantha Marcus

My name is Samantha Marcus, and I am 16 years old.  I have two older siblings Alex and Emily.  I was born in Boca Raton Florida and moved to Marietta, GA in 2009.    I attend Lassiter High School in Marietta and I am a Junior.  I am a competitive dancer and I belong to the performing group Edge at Rhythm Dance Center.  In my free time I enjoy shopping and hanging out with friends.

A trip to the emergency room at Scottish Rite on June 15, 2021, resulted in my cancer diagnosis.  On this day I was diagnosed with AML.  This is a form of Leukemia that is acute in nature and aggressive.  I immediately started my cancer fight.  I spent the next 95 days in the hospital receiving chemotherapy and recovering.  I also was told early on that I would need a Bone Marrow Transplant.  On November 16th, 2021, I received this transplant at Egleston hospital.  I will forever be grateful to my donor, Be the Match as well as all the nurses and doctors at CHOA.

My best advice to give someone going through this fight is to stay positive and focus on the future.  Try to focus on what you can do and not what you can’t.  The journey is tough but just believe in yourself and your strength to overcome the adversity.

Looking at my future, I plan on continuing my education and attend college.  Not sure where I will end up but I know I am excited to live my life!
