It was AWESOME, Baby!
It’s that time of year again… 64 teams battle on the hardwoods, while millions of people watch their brackets to see if their team will win it all… and go to the NCAA Championship! And what a year this has been with UConn, Miami, San Diego State and FAU battling it out in the Final Four…In honor of this fun time of year, the SagerStrong Foundation and The Zone partnered together to bring the magic and excitement of March Madness to the hospital for a memorable afternoon of basketball, food and fun to take the young patients’ minds off their treatment, and make them smile!
The SagerStrong Foundation hosted its second annual March Mania at The Zone at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite Campus, on March 31st!
March was always a special time for Craig Sager, the Hall of Fame sports reporter who covered playoff basketball for the NBA, as well as a host of other sports over his 42-year career. Craig criss-crossed the country in the spring each year, bringing fans an up-close look at the NBA players on the court. The SagerStrong Foundation wanted to continue to celebrate this special time, in honor of Craig, and to remember his work while mixing in some fun in “SagerStyle,” during the NCAA’s March Madness.
The children enjoyed pizza compliments of Tandoori Pizza & Wing Co., cookies from Crumbl Cookies, basketball-themed crafts, played NBA2k games and a “SagerStrong Shootout” on the basketball court at The Zone where they competed for fun prizes, courtesy of our friends at the Atlanta Hawks! Patients were cheered on by the A-Town Dancers/Atlanta Hawks Dance Team, volunteers and Harry the Hawk… it was AWESOME, Baby… (in the words of our dear friend and NCAA announcer, Dickie V!) Each participant received a special gift pack from the Atlanta Hawks — and a few of the shooters in the shootout even received basketball shoes– it was incredible!
We can not wait until next year!!! #StayingSagerStrong #SagerStrong
