Gianna – “STAYING SAGER STRONG”
This past year was challenging. Nothing short of that. On June 24th I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. When first hearing that I have cancer, the only thing in my head was fear for my life. But with the right attitude and people to help you, you come to learn that this journey is all up to you, and what you make of it. That’s not to say it’s easy at all, but it’s unbelievable how much I have learned that a positive outlook goes such a long way with this journey.
For a long story short, as for my journey. In March of 2021, I found a lump right above my collar bone. Over 4 months more lumps kept appearing on both sides of my neck. Here comes June, with a biopsy and surgery later I received my diagnosis. Shortly after I was told I have stage 3 and need maximum dosage of chemotherapy. So I began treatment as soon as I could. I started treatment in July. I am extremely fortunate and blessed, at the first half of my treatment my scan showed there was no more evidence of the lymphoma . I finally got to finish chemo on December 27th, 2022 and ring the bell!
I officially got the news that I was in remission on January 31st of 2023. Since then, I have been taking my life one day at a time, and making the most of every day.
As for the people who have checked in on me through my whole journey, gave me cute chemo starter kit baskets, sent flowers and gifts, I truly can’t thank you enough, because it truly does mean more than you know. I also love being able to meet new friends along the way. While also receiving such love and support from the SagerStrong Foundation and the Rally Foundation.
And for my family… I thank God every single night for my family. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support they have given. I know Gary was looking out for me too up there. And also, Gina Dubiel…she is the absolute greatest Mom, best friend, hype up girl, care giver, and shoulder to cry on. I simply could not have done this without her. I will never be able to repay my thanks. And, if I have learned one thing this year it is that not everyday is promised, that you never know how quickly things can change your entire life in just a second. Make the most of it, be appreciative for the little things, and be kind to people. You truly never know what people are going through.
