COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP AND OTHER FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR CANCER PATIENTS

Going to college is a monumental milestone for so many teenagers…but for teens fighting through a cancer diagnosis and treatment, it can be the ultimate signal that life is back on track!  However, sometimes affording college post treatment can be daunting.

Cancer Thriver, Nancy,  created a website and links to many of the hurdles she, too, faced when dealing with stage 4 cancer.  And we just LOVED her site.

As many of you begin to plan for your post-secondary education, please take a look at excerpts below from Nancy’s list -that we thought this list might be helpful and feel free to visit her site at:

The National GRACE Foundation

GRACE stands for Growing, Recovering and Achieving a College Education. Provides FREE college admissions and financial aid counseling to pediatric cancer patients and survivors.

While there are no actual federally-funded scholarships for cancer survivors, there are a number of general grants that are open to all students. These are need-based grants. The financial burden placed on cancer patients and their families is likely to make them eligible for an award.

Federal Pell Grant

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

PRIVATE SOURCES OF SCHOLARSHIPS

The majority of scholarships for cancer patients and survivors are funded by the private sector. Professional associations and advocacy and support groups are the primary source of financial assistance for students who are pursuing their college education while battling or recovering from all types of cancer.

Here are a few recently featured on NANCY’S LIST – we are sharing with permission from Nancy and her site:
